Roundabout Theatre Company (Todd Haimes, Artistic Director) is proud to present the New York premiere of Theresa Rebeck’s new comedy The Understudy, directed by Scott Ellis featuring Mark-Paul Gosselaar (TNT’s “Raising the Bar”) as “Jake”,  Justin Kirk (Showtime’s “Weeds”) as “Harry” and Tony® Award winner Julie White as “Roxanne”.

The Understudy opened officially on Thursday, November 5, 2009 at the Laura Pels Theatre at the Harold and Miriam Steinberg Center for Theatre (111 West 46^th Street).  The limited engagement has been extended through January 17^th, 2010.

The design team includes Alexander Dodge (Sets), Tom Broecker (Costumes), Kenneth Posner (Lights), Obadiah Eaves (Original Music & Sound).

Box office heroes and washed-up has-beens take heed: the play’s almost the thing. In this bitingly witty and entertaining comedy by Theresa Rebeck (Mauritius), the lights of Broadway cast an affectionate glow over this look at one of the most notorious roles in the theatre: the understudy.

John Stamos, star of Roundabout Theatre Company’s Bye Bye Birdie, will appear on ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live” tomorrow between 12:05AM-1:05AM on channel 7 and “The View” on Thursday, November 19^th between 11:00AM – 12:00PM on channel 7.

Bye Bye Birdie stars John Stamos (Albert Peterson), Gina Gershon (Rose Alvarez), Bill Irwin (Mr. Harry MacAfee) and Nolan Gerard Funk as “Conrad Birdie.”  The cast also features Jayne Houdyshell (Mrs. Mae Peterson), Dee Hoty (Mrs. MacAfee), Matt Doyle (Hugo Peabody), Neil McCaffrey (Randolph MacAfee) & Allie Trimm (Kim MacAfee). Bye Bye Birdie is directed and choreographed by Robert Longbottom with a book by Michael Stewart, music by Charles Strouse and lyrics by Lee Adams.

Bye Bye Birdie is the inaugural production of the new Henry Miller’s Theatre (124 West 43^rd Street) it will open officially on Thursday, October 15^th, 2009.  This will be a limited engagement through April 25^th, 2010.

In Bye Bye Birdie, the exuberant rock n’ roll musical comedy, it’s 1960 and hip-swingin’ teen idol superstar Conrad Birdie (Funk) has been drafted into the army.   Birdie’s manager Albert (Stamos) and his secretary Rosie (Gershon) have cooked up a plan to send him off with a swell new song and one last kiss from a lucky teenage fan… on “The Ed Sullivan Show”!

In Wishful Drinking, Carrie Fisher recounts the true and intoxicating tale of her life as a Hollywood legend, told with the same wry wit she poured into bestsellers like Postcards from the Edge. The daughter of Eddie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds, Carrie Fisher became a cultural icon when she starred as “Princess Leia” in the first Star Wars trilogy at 19 years old. Forever changed, Carrie’s life did not stay picture perfect.  Fisher is the life of the party in this uproarious and sobering look at her Hollywood hangover.

TO APPEAR ON “LIVE WITH REGIS & KELLY”

FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 13

Emmy and Golden Globe Award-winner Jimmy Smits, who will star in the hit Broadway comedy GOD OF CARNAGE, will appear on “Live with Regis & Kelly” this Friday, November 13.  “Live with Regis & Kelly” airs in the New York area on WABC-TV at 9:00am.  Check local listings for times outside the New York tri-state area.

Jimmy Smits, will star as ‘Alan’ in GOD OF CARNAGE, along with Christine Lahti as ‘Veronica,’ Annie Potts as ‘Annette’ and Ken Stott as ‘Michael.’  The new cast begins performances Tuesday, November 17 at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre (242 West 45th Street). 

After receiving rave reviews in London, GOD OF CARNAGE opened on Broadway March 22, 2009 to unanimous praise.  The Yasmina Reza comedy won the Tony Award for Best Play and Best Direction of a Play (Matthew Warchus). GOD OF CARNAGE also won the 2009 Olivier Award for Best New Comedy.

GOD OF CARNAGE is a comedy of manners without the manners.  The play deals with the aftermath of a playground altercation between two boys and what happens when their parents meet to talk about it.

GOD OF CARNAGE reunites the creative team that staged the Tony Award-winning Best Play, Art. Designed by Mark Thompson (sets and costumes), with lighting by Hugh Vanstone, sound by Simon Baker & Chris Cronin, the play has music by Gary Yershon.

Stott is appearing with the support of Actors’ Equity Association.  The producers gratefully acknowledge Actors’ Equity Association for its assistance of this production.

Manhattan Theatre Club’s hit production of THE ROYAL FAMILY, written by theatre legends George S. Kaufman and Edna Ferber and directed by Tony Award winner Doug Hughes, will be featured on this weekend’s episode of “Theater Talk.”

The episode, which premieres 1 AM late Friday night, November 13 on Channel 13, will feature THE ROYAL FAMILY cast members John Glover and Tony Roberts. The episode will also include playwright Paul Rudnick, New York Times theatre critic Charles Isherwood, and hosts Susan Haskins and Michael Riedel offering an appreciation of THE ROYAL FAMILY co-writer George S. Kaufman.

The episode will subsequently air on CUNY-TV (Ch. 75 on Time Warner Cable), Saturday, November 14 at 8:30 PM; Sunday, November 15 at 12:30 PM; and Monday, November 16 at 7:30 AM, 1:30 PM, and 7:30 PM.

Tickets for the acclaimed production of THE ROYAL FAMILY are on sale through Sunday, December 13 at MTC’s Samuel J. Friedman Theatre (261 West 47^th Street) where the production has been extended twice.

Maksim Chmerkovskiy, who returns to Broadway’s dance hit BURN THE FLOOR on November 27, will be a guest on MTV’s “It’s On with Alexa Chung” today, Thu Nov 12 at 3:30 PM.  Maks made his Broadway debut with the show in August and returns this month, partnered with Kym Johnson.

BURN THE FLOOR was the first Broadway show of the new season.  After opening in August and breaking box office records at the Longacre Theatre, the show announced its extension to January 10, 2010.
